In what ways do building automation systems contribute to sustainability and energy efficiency goals in your projects?

According to a report published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, in the next 50 years, 30% of the world’s estimated population is expected to reside in regions where the average temperature is above 29°C due to climate change-related rapid temperature rise and population expansion. Currently, this climate only exists on less than 1% of the Earth’s land surface, mainly in the hottest regions of the Sahara Desert. But by 2070, these temperatures are expected to be present across about a fifth of the planet’s terrestrial surface. Having said that, building systems have a special role to play and they are contributing immensely to sustainability and energy efficiency goals in our projects.

What are the main challenges or barriers you encounter when implementing building automation systems in your projects, and how do you address them?

With the growth of technology, smart buildings are growing more and more complex, requiring quicker follow-up looks via retro-commissioning. Adding to that, the risks associated with sustained operational integrity are also mounting. Hence, the demand for comprehensive building automation systems is expected to spike. It is very important to establish the necessary communication between the system providers/designers and owners of the buildings to understand the functioning of the building.

How do you ensure that building automation systems are user-friendly and intuitive for occupants and end-users?

While planning the integration of automation system we ensure that it is meticulously designed, keeping in mind the end user psychology. We consider every minute aspects ranging from automated curtain sliding, lighting and appliance control to security and access control, keeping consumer practicality in mind. We do extensive research on how operation efficiency can be achieved and how automation is compatible on any device.

What considerations do you take into account when selecting building automation technologies and solutions for your projects (e.g., scalability, compatibility, cost-effectiveness)?

Well, building automation system can be divided into two categories, one is for home usage and the other is for exteriors. For the exterior we consider only the best security and access control solutions so that the consumers are in total control. We also consider systems that allow consumers to track the consumption of water, electricity and maintenance. Though the deployment cost seems on the higher side, over the period of time it helps in saving a lot of cost and helps in utilizing resources to the optimum.

Can you provide examples of successful projects where the implementation of building automation systems has had a significant impact on building performance, occupant comfort, or operational efficiency?

We have completed a 1000-unit project called BCD Emprasa. We also brought in a new entity which is a facility management and operation control company. This project has one of the highest occupants in India with about 10,000 girls who will be working in Fortune 500 factories for production. That is a very heavy number of people in a particular project. For this we have implemented fire safety, STP, usage, CCTV cameras, power monitors, and fire safety along with a robust automated security system.

How do you see the future of building automation and home automation evolving in the real estate development industry, and what opportunities do you foresee for further innovation and adoption?

According to a published study, The India Building Automation & Control Systems market was valued at USD 10.28 Billion in 2023 and is anticipated to project robust growth in the forecast period with a CAGR of 8.64% during the forecast period, i.e. 2029. Thibault Labaume, Sales Manager APAC, Cabasse is an accomplished Sales Manager for the APAC region at Cabasse, bringing over nine years of international sales and marketing experience. Known for his entrepreneurial mindset and strategic business management skills, Thibault excels in driving revenue growth, expanding market share, and enhancing overall business performance. He shares his insight with Smart Home World on the region’s diverse market opportunities, his ability to integrate local insights with global strategies, and how he ensures effective and sustainable growth in a competitive landscape.

Cabasse is a renowned French company that has come a long way and achieved various milestones right from developing coaxial speakers’ technology to the latest product line tell us about the brand’s journey.

Georges Cabasse’s initial focus was on crafting high-quality, handmade speakers. By the 1960s, the company had already established itself as a significant player in the audio market. One of their early breakthroughs was the development of coaxial speakers, which positioned multiple speaker drivers on a single axis to create a more unified sound.

Cabasse’s pioneering work in coaxial speaker technology set them apart. This technology allows for the alignment of the acoustic centers of different drivers (tweeter, midrange, woofer), resulting in a coherent sound wavefront and superior audio clarity. The company’s commitment to this technology led to the creation of some of its most iconic products.

In the 1970s and 1990s, Cabasse continued to push the boundaries of speaker design.  The 1980s also saw the release of the Baltic and Egea series, which were highly acclaimed for their design and performance.

They introduced the iconic “Sphère” in 2006, a world reference speaker, known for their spherical shape, which helped to minimize diffraction and provide an unparalleled listening experience.

In recent years, Cabasse has continued to innovate with the introduction of advanced digital audio technologies. Their latest product lines include wireless and smart speakers, catering to the modern consumer’s needs. Products like the Pearl and Pearl Akoya have received praise for their exceptional sound quality and sleek design.

In 2014, Cabasse was acquired by AwoX, a company specializing in connected devices, which enabled Cabasse to integrate smart technology into its audio products. This acquisition has allowed Cabasse to stay at the forefront of the audio industry by combining high-fidelity sound with the latest in smart technology.

Cabasse’s journey from a small workshop in France to a global audio brand is a testament to their dedication to innovation and quality. Their commitment to high-fidelity sound and technological advancement continues to shape their product offerings, ensuring that they remain a leader in the audio industry.

Cabasse has been in the industry since 1950, you have your presence in different countries around the world. So, what kind of opportunity do you foresee in India?

We see the Indian market as one of the most exciting and rapidly emerging markets. Indian customers are increasingly seeking superior audio quality and cutting-edge technologies, particularly from esteemed European brands with distinctive designs. We are confident in our ability to meet the expectations and demands of Indian consumers today.

You offer products and expertise in various verticals; can you elaborate on the Connected Systems?

It is important to know that the connected systems come from our expertise and acoustics innovations. We designed our reference Speaker La Sphere. And our mission was to understand how we could miniaturize the products, and make them connected and more affordable. This is how, after many years of R&D development, we came up with the first product of the range, The Pearl. The connected systems imply a lot of technologies and software development, which I will explain below.

What are the types of Acoustic Technologies you offer?

Conceived by Georges Cabasse in 1952 and continuously improved since then, our patented coaxial loudspeakers allow all sound waves to emanate from a single source point so that they propagate in a coherent and natural way, without artificial interference.

Whatever your listening position is, our patented coaxial drivers allow for optimal listening even if you’re not located exactly in the middle of the two speakers. This means high-fidelity is not only reserved for one person in a room but it can be enjoyed by a group of people scattered around the room. Our patented coaxial drivers add no coloration to your room’s natural coloration.

Deep bass boosted by HELD technology; this patented combination of Cabasse technologies lets you experience the full dynamics of your favorite music from the subtlest to the punchiest sounds without clipping or distortion.

The design of the motor is a perfectly symmetrical (double winding/double air gap) underhung type motor with perfectly linear excursion and low and symmetrical inductance variation featuring excellent power handling. The moving assembly allows the coil to pass through the motor and enables the rear suspension to be offset as far as possible from the front suspension for optimal guidance.

Cabasse Sphere design and coaxial: Cabasse is known for its spherical speakers that use coaxial drivers. This design allows for better sound dispersion and more precise stereo imaging. The principle of coaxial technology is to place multiple transducers on the same axis, reducing phase issues and improving temporal coherence.

Carbon Kevlar Domes: Used in some speakers, these materials offer increased rigidity and reduced distortion, enhancing clarity and sound precision.

Honeycomb Membranes: These membranes with a honeycomb structure allow for maximum lightness and rigidity, resulting in better transient response and reduced distortion.

Cabasse Acoustic Centering Technology: A technology that acoustically centers the drivers to optimize sound dispersion and achieve a more natural and wider soundstage.

Tell us about your software technology.

Since 1950, Cabasse has accumulated patents in acoustics, signal processing, and connected technologies. Its innovations have one single goal… to offer you a unique sound signature that’s dynamic, natural, spacious, and precise.

100% Developed by Cabasse, the StreamCONTROL Cabasse application is developed in France premises. The ergonomics, new functionalities and new services are created in-house by our teams and allow us to adapt to the rapid evolution of mobile platforms.

All your services are in a single application. The StreamCONTROL app is a platform that offers you a complete range of streaming services, compatible with voice assistants and numerous control options. Browse all your music, podcasts, radios, and audiobooks in a single application.

The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Technology simplifies the usage of this tech. We are dividing the whole frequencies in tiny segments. In each segment, we are improving the strengths of our drivers, and reducing our weaknesses. This is a very precise work, and a hard one. In order, to have the best sound possible, on each of our active/connected systems.

CRCS Technology is the most sophisticated system such as La Sphère, THE PEARL COLLECTION has a patented automatic room correction system with integrated microphone for optimal acoustics whatever the listening environment.

An integrated measuring microphone allows you to perform very quick automatic acoustic optimization, with the use of very high precision digital parametric filters. This algorithm also identifies the “attenuated” spectral bands which are then compensated, and the bass level is adjusted according to the speaker placement.

Zero sound interference thanks to Cabasse’s coaxial speaker technology

Conceived by Georges Cabasse in 1952 and continuously improved since then, our patented coaxial loudspeakers allow all sound waves to emanate from a single source point so that they propagate in a coherent and natural way, without artificial interference.

Artificial Intelligence to control amplification

In our PEARL series, the bass dynamics are enhanced by patented multiband dynamic signal processing with feedback loops to constantly use all the available amp power.

Each speaker is overamplified in order to reproduce contrasting sounds. Notes and sound peaks are reproduced without distortion.

Increase the volume without compromise thanks to the DFE. With the Dynamic Fidelity Enhancer from our PEARL series, you’ll find the balance of the original in background music mode at home, as well as at a party at full volume.

Our signal processing algorithms maximize the power sent to each speaker in real-time, taking into account the listening level, spectral content, and dynamics of the song.

Digital Enhancement of Acoustical Performances (DEAP)

Cabasse has developed all the DSP profiles adapted to its loudspeakers in order to optimize and adapt sound according to their location in your listening room.

TV Direct Mode

The Direct mode allows you to minimize latency to be synchronized with the sound of your TV set or other sources. For a stereo optical configuration, you will need an optical switch. For mono listening, an optical switch is not necessary.

For a stereo RCA configuration, you will only need to connect the right and left channels and define each channel in the app.

Create music zones in a single motion and access all your sources

Control your devices from any room. Group your speakers to play your songs in perfect sync, save your favorite content, adjust the volume in each listening room and customize settings for a personalized and cleaner playback.

Can you tell us about your range of wireless audio systems?

We have the largest catalogs of high-end audio wireless solutions in the world.

We have developed first, The Pearl, The Pearl Akoya, The Pearl Myuki, which can be used as a unit, or in stereo with a pair. Our flagship, The Pearl Pelegrina, is a true masterpiece. Then we have the 2.1 Solutions, The Pearl Keshi, The Pearl Sub with our Baltics 5, Riga 2, iO3,

“Rising disposable incomes, urbanization, and a growing middle class could drive demand for smart lighting products and systems.”

Zion Dzine is one of the most reputed companies in the industry. Can you take our readers through your journey so far…

Zion Dzine’s journey began in 2015, when I armed with a master’s degree in marketing and hailing from a family engaged in electrical and lighting trade, felt the tug of the creative. The fascination I felt for architectural and interior lighting was strong enough to make me step out of my comfort zone and venture into unknown territory. The beginning was humble, and the growth organic. Along the way, I honed, what was now quite obviously, a natural calling with informal yet enlightening sessions with design experts and subsequently, a short course at Institute of Lighting Design, Prague. I am currently an Associate with the International Association of Lighting Designers.

From its small beginnings, today we have burgeoned into a thriving practice with a dynamic, multi-faceted and cross-disciplinary team housed under one roof, with a passion for lighting hardcoded in our very DNA. Our team includes a lighting designer, architects, interior designers, a 3D visualiser and engineers — experts who understand the nuances of spatial design, and thus ensure that collaborations and communications with architects and interior designers are seamless, smooth and fruitful.

Can you mention some of the landmark projects you worked on, that have been a turning point in your career in terms of experimenting with new lighting techniques/designs or introducing innovative concepts?

Sun Avenue One, The first, Orbit, Aaramness Gir and Sun West Bank.

What are your views on the importance of Lighting Design in a project?

Lighting design plays a crucial role in any project, whether it’s architecture, interior design, theater production, or even film.  Lighting design is essential for creating visually appealing, functional, and sustainable environments that enhance the user experience and contribute to the success of a project.

Lighting can enhance the aesthetics of a space or an object, highlighting its best features and creating a desired atmosphere. It can evoke emotions, set moods, and create visual interest.

Jamie McKay, Sales & Marketing Director, Armour Home brings more than 25 years of experience in global commercial, sales and marketing roles within audio and technology industries. Jamie has successfully overseen multi-million-dollar sales and marketing campaigns across multiple international territories. In an exclusive interview with Smart Home World, he discusses marketing initiatives to grow Armour Home brands’ global presence and the new range soon to be launched.

Could you provide insights into Q Acoustics’ journey, highlighting the milestones achieved as it redefined various market segments, from affordable to high-end, and introduced innovations like the Q Active wireless audio system?

The ethos of Q Acoustics from the very beginning has been all about delivering fabulous acoustic performance for a fair price and is also available at various price points. I believe that we are out-performing with this objective given the vast number of awards Q Acoustics has received across the world since its launch in 2006. There are many highlights in our journey, but the launch of the Q5000 series in 2023 marked the completion of our passive speakers range from entry-level to high-end range. Plus the Product of the Year Award from What Hi-Fi in 2023 for the Q5040 is the “icing on the cake” cementing Q Acoustics’ position as one of the leading speaker brands in the world.  When developing speakers, we are always looking to innovate be it in the use of Gelcore, BMR drivers point-to-point bracing, isolation plates in the Concept Series and more recently the C3 Continuous Curved Cone™.  The development of Q Active follows this passion for innovation both in industrial design, the use of BMR drivers and the wireless technology to drive the Q Active audio system, which we believe is one of the most flexible, high-performing audio systems in the market with the added benefit that it has been designed for lifestyle living.

With your extensive industry experience, what potential opportunities do you envision for Q Acoustics in the Indian market?

While we’re witnessing a growing demand for our full range of passive speakers in India, Q Acoustic is currently focusing on two major areas: installation products and powered/streaming systems. Our new M40 Bluetooth micro tower exemplifies the latter, showcasing our dedication to innovation in this field.

While much attention rightly goes to our consumer-using Q Acoustic products, we also boast a robust range of installation products with wireless capabilities. This lineup will be further enriched with the launch of a unique wireless product in late summer. I’m excited to collaborate with MZ to further develop the installation product segment in the upcoming year.

The growth in the availability of music-on-demand services worldwide is shaping a new breed of music enthusiasts, prioritising convenience in their listening experience. India with its vast population and tech-savvy younger demographic, presents an immense market opportunity for audio brands.

In India, as in many parts of the world, the enjoyment of music holds significant importance in daily life. As we envision the next wave of products, it’s crucial to uphold Q Acoustics’ design ethos: delivering outstanding acoustic performance at an accessible price point while staying attuned to the evolving needs of diverse markets globally.

How do you intend to utilize your partnership with MZ to introduce and establish Q Acoustics in India?

In any territory, having a seasoned partner is very important. With no office of our own in India, MZ serves as our vital link to the local market. They provide invaluable insights into consumer trends, guiding our brands and ensuring optimal market coverage. Collaborating closely with MZ, we tailor our marketing strategies to resonate with the core Indian customer base. Together, we aim to educate them about the diverse offerings of Q Acoustics, catering to both consumer and installation segments. As the importance of the install market grows, this partnership becomes increasingly crucial for all brands.

With a longstanding relationship spanning over 15 years, MZ is not just a trading partner but an integral part of our global business network, contributing significantly to our success worldwide.

Can you provide details on the range of audio products Q Acoustics intends to launch in India through its collaboration with MZ?

We have an exciting lineup of new introductions scheduled over the next few months, but at this stage, not all of the details are available to share so it will be a case of “watch this space” and look out for good news coming with a glimpse of what is coming on show at the High-End Show in Munich in May. We have just introduced the M40 which is our micro tower Bluetooth-powered system to go alongside our award-winning M20 unit. We have some exciting additions to our install range planned both with speakers and electronics, and we will be releasing more information on this as we head into summer. We also have some exciting news planned within our passive speaker range with more news to become available in the coming couple of months. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but we don’t want to ruin the surprise!

Could you elaborate on Q Acoustics’ line-up of wireless and powered speakers?

We launched the Q Active range back in 2020 and it was our first involvement with an active, streaming speaker and it was designed to be a completely networked-enabled home audio entertainment system. We followed this with the M20 which is an award-winning powered bookshelf model with Bluetooth connectivity that has achieved remarkable success since launch. We have recently launched the M20’s “big brother” the M40, in a micro tower format but with the notable inclusion of the C3 drivers that were introduced as part of our 5000 series range.  The market response and reviews for M40 have “blown us away” to the extent that we sold everything we had within days of the first products arriving in our warehouse.  88

According to industry experts, the powered speaker market is poised for significant growth shortly. As the younger generation transitions from `smartphones and headphones’ to more premium audio experiences, there’s a natural inclination towards consolidated systems offering convenience and sleek form factors.

For Q Acoustics, it’s crucial to offer solutions that are both user-friendly and cost-effective, ensuring a strong foothold in the market among future customers. In our ongoing discussions regarding future product development, considerable attention is given to providing comprehensive audio solutions that cater to all customer needs.

A key focus of our roadmap is the development of a powered wireless speaker solution, which aligns with the evolving preferences of consumers. Our next wireless product launch, slated for the last quarter of 2024, will be tailored specifically for the installation market, further solidifying our commitment to innovation and meeting the demands of our customers

In what ways does the 5000 series cater to apartments of various sizes and budget categories in the Indian market?

The 5000 series is our latest range and provides the bridge between our entry-level 3000i range and our premium Concept Series. The range offers 4 product finishes (Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood & Holme Oak) and 4 size options of product with 2 bookshelf and 2 floor standing models, with the award-winning Q5040 designed specifically for the smaller room/apartment with no compromise on acoustic performance.

Can you shed light on Q Acoustics’ offerings in Bookshelf and Floor-Standing speakers?

We have tried to curate our product portfolio so there is a relevant option for any customer looking for the best-performing speaker for their budget and home environment and I believe that the awards that we have received around the world would support that we have been successful at delivering an excellent choice bookshelf and floor standing options for our customers.

For home theatre setups, what combinations and permutations do you recommend for Indian households using Q Acoustics’ products?

A very difficult question to answer in a short sentence. Sound is such a subjective thing so what works for one customer may not suit another and budget plays a big part in any purchasing decision. In each of our range offerings we have several home theatre bundles that will provide an initial 5.1 channel set up which can then be expanded on should the customer desire and we now have a solution from the entry-level budget at Q3000i to the high-end budget with Concept series.  For those not wanting a complete 5.1 system, our ranges can be implemented in 2.1 format and there is also M20 and M40, which can further be enhanced with a sub-woofer and offer an excellent alternative solution for those not wanting to invest in an AV receiver.  I believe Q Acoustics offers a solution for every budget and format to enhance a theatre/TV viewing experience.

Which receiver or amplifier pairs best with Q Acoustics loudspeakers?

Again, a very difficult question to answer as everyone’s tastes are different. We work a lot in combination with Cambridge Audio and will be using their electronics at the upcoming High End Show in Munich. Our products have a reputation for offering a “neutral’ listing experience, as there is no discernible effect in bass or treble from the speakers themselves, so that is something that needs bearing in mind when selecting an electronics partner. From a multichannel perspective, I spent many years working with Denon and Marantz so have a fondness for those products and believe that they pair well with Q Acoustics.

Which streaming protocols is Q Acoustics compatible with, and how does it enhance the user experience in Indian homes?

Q Acoustics is always evaluating the popular music streaming services and protocols that could be used with our products worldwide, to ensure a great user experience. The specific supported protocols and services will differ slightly from product to product, as they service different market sectors with varying customer expectations. We have products certified for Airplay 2, Google CAST, Bluetooth A2DP with AVRCP 1.5, Bluetooth aptX HD and Low Latency, Spotify Connect, Roon Ready and UPnP, and will be expanding this list of new products shortly. Popular music streaming services in India such as Spotify, Amazon Music and JioSaavn are all compatible with the supported protocols mentioned. Q Acoustics will always strive to support the best possible audio quality streaming to complement the award-winning products that we make, giving consumers in India peace of mind that they will be getting the very best out of our products.

How does Q Acoustics ensure seamless connectivity and integration with India’s diverse smart home ecosystems?

Q Acoustics has taken care to employ people with a wealth of experience in smart home and integrated systems automation spanning several decades. This in-house knowledge ensures that our current and future products can be engineered and supported to integrate with popular smart home products throughout the world. Part of the process is working closely with our international partners such as MZ to identify smart home products specific to a particular region, investigating how these can work with our products, and then working with the third-party manufacturer if required to prove the integration and publish a simple guide on how consumers or installation professionals can achieve the very best results.

Sachin Bhargava, an Electrical Engineer, and Pooja Bhargava, a NIFT Delhi Post Graduate with a MA in lighting design from Wismar, Germany, have combined their expertise to establish a lighting control, and technology centre named Studio Johns in the vibrant city of Jaipur, India. With a background in architectural lighting products and extensive training from leading lighting companies, they offer comprehensive services in design, supply, and experiential lighting solutions. Studio Johns provides personalized guidance to stakeholders, contractors, and architects, empowering them to make informed decisions and create impactful lighting designs for their projects.

In an exclusive Interview Sachin and Pooja Bhargava speak about their journey, their challenging projects and more …

Studio Johns is one of the most reputed companies in the industry. Can you take our readers through your journey so far…?

Studio Johns, is a technology, engineering and lighting design company. It is co-founded by Sachin Bhargava and Pooja Bhargava. Sachin Bhargava, an electrical Engineer is the technology and engineering mind, whereas Pooja is a creative soul. She is a NIFT- Delhi graduate and Master in Lighting Design (Architectural Lighting & design Management) from Wismar, Germany.

We started the company in 2002. One day world renowned architect Dr Anoop Baratria called us in his office in 2016 and asked us, if we would be interested in lighting the world’s first heritage walkway in Amritsar. We, immediately grabbed the opportunity and there was on looking back.

Today, we boast an experienced team to ensure good design, better installations and best results.

Can you mention some of the landmark projects you worked on, which have been a turning point in your career in terms of experimenting with new lighting techniques/designs or introducing innovative concepts?

In, 2016 we designed, supplied and commissioned the world’s longest heritage walkway- 1km heritage walk in Amritsar. It is from Town Hall to Jaliawalabagh to Darbar Sahab) Golden Temple.

In 2022, we designed and completed India’s first outdoor museum on ‘Constitution of India’ in the beautiful Pink City- Jaipur. In 2023, Architectural lighting of 3KM of world’s longest heritage riverfront on either side of Chambal Riverfront.

Both the public places projects have been ahead in terms of lighting and have been carefully lit up without the use of flood, making each facade low voltage consumption, darkness friendly, well-planned, and better installed

What are your views on the importance of Lighting Design in a project?

Lighting Design is a subject poorly implemented in India as the awareness is still low within communities and stakeholders. With LED’s becoming cheaper and powerful, we must stop the misuse of selection/over selection while choosing LED fixtures. Let’s not look at wattage but lumens output from a fixture while selecting.

Secondly, public places should not be flooded/over lit up. We are losing the night view of skies from the city because of over lighting. Not everything needs to be switched ON every day and every night hour. Automation should be used to plan the timings of these facades.

Thirdly, I feel there should be a guideline for lighting up the facades in the city. The facade belongs to the city. The city needs to have a theme ‘vision’. Lighting designer should align their designs to the theme/vision of the city.

Every government project should have a lighting designer on board before executing a project.

What is the biggest innovation in the lighting sector? How has it revolutionized the entire industry?

Well, innovation is a continuous process. We see the changes every month in LEDs, allowing the fixtures to be super small yet powerful. There is a lot of growth in linear fixtures as they are futuristic design. Controls have become wireless and the entire package of lighting and control have a lot to offer in terms of innovative design.

As a Lighting Designer, which lighting control brands do you prefer?

So, for us each project and application have a futuristic, easy to use brand. For example, when we do-residences, we love to play with KNX using JUNG switches, wireless using CASAMBI. In case of large project installation like a public place we use Schneider/ABB for KNX, CASAMBI for wireless and MADRIX for DMX.

What are your views on the Smart lighting industry? According to you, in which sector (hospitality, commercial, residential), is traditional lighting getting rapidly replaced by smart lighting?

Smart lighting is the need of the hour. It finds usage in every sector, every application on every day basis. With power becoming expensive, sustainability becoming a challenge it is the need of the hour for government to act and Implement/mandate specifications for complete and holistic implementation of Smart Lighting Controls at least in public places in India.

If we have to live with “Ease of living” becoming a norm in India by 2047, there needs to be documents prepared, vision boards made by the government for SMART LIGHTNING.

For the second part of the question, larger spaces, bigger installations will always be more beneficial and viable financially if smart lighting is implemented.

Unfortunately, I don’t see much happening on the ground level as the tender are not prepared with guidelines in mind.

How do you foresee the Smart Lighting Industry 5 years down the line in India?

Five years down the line…

  • The ‘Make in India’ initiatives will be present. There will be at least +30 more companies into manufacturing.
  • Complete manufacturing, including diffusers and chips will start within the country.
  • Indian lighting standards, city vision documents/guidelines would be laid out.
  • BSR of government bodies will be more elaborate smart and sustainable in terms of specifications.
  • Every electrical circuit will have some sort of automation.
  • Applications will increase, light business will increase but quantitative installation per square feet will reduce and become meaningful.

Human Centric Lighting (HCL) is a futuristic trend in the lighting industry with health and mental wellness being the top benefits. What are your views on the same?

All living things responded to light in a different way. Human Centric Light will find application in most of the environment spaces working in 24 hours of day. I feel, it will enhance productivity and have better mental and health impact on living things.

However, controls, AI and overall space and location will also play an equal and dynamic role while designing futures spaces.

As the smart lighting market is fragmented into various segments – such as type, applications, end-users, and distribution channel, how does Studio Johns provide the best lighting solutions that suit consumer needs?

Unlike a lot of others, we are a team of engineers, First and designer Second. So, to say that our stress on controls, drawings, implementation, commissioning is far more time-consuming because of a vast experience in controls, education in lighting design and a complete team to ensure end-to-end feel that our designs have far more impact than those who only design.

Our designs always have comprehensive technical parameters to match heritage, modern/ facade goals.  Our team is well-trained with manufacturer’s design, files and renders.

I began with saying we are technology, engineering and lighting company. We are in continuous hunt and in huger to adopt technologies, use AI, Controls Media as to opt for designs out of the box to create, showcase mesmerising experiences.

So, we are leading and growing every year. We want to be recognised for meaningful designs.

We love to add emotions and culture into installations. We want to design to have foot prints in every state of India and beyond.

Finally, we want to make an impact and contribution in the making of “Developed Bharat” ensuring and preserving our culture & heritage in the coming years.

What we show as render is what we deliver.

From Street light poles, bollards to Architectural Lighting, we do all AutoCAD, renders, Dialux, 3-D, VR in house.

Tell us about the user experience with IoT and AI automation systems as the future of Smart Lighting

The idea of showcasing, IOT and AI at the booth was to make people experience the power and usage of AI and understand futuristic concept. AI is a game changer and opens a pandora box to unlimited application and usage.

Future belongs to control and engineering, lighting will only be a product to be consumed in these applications. The mind-blowing application we display with immersiveness and instructiveness were a true delight to the user. And this is just, beginning…

As I said earlier lighting and controls go hand-in-hand. It’s like a marriage, good design smart system will only work if both lights and controls are smart and understand each other.

Although, I see a lot of crossing in this domain, these days, where light suppliers are also in control integration. So, both roles are equally important and are depending on each other.

Adam Shaw-Cotterill boasts over 25 years of expertise within the AV industry, spanning retail, custom installation, and manufacturing domains. Notably, he has held the position of International Sales Director at AudioQuest for the past decade, showcasing his profound understanding of the market. In his role, Adam sheds light on products designed to deliver pristine and consistent power to audio components, thereby enhancing sound quality and overall performance.

AudioQuest, founded by William Low, headquartered in Irvine California since 1980, has been a leading developer, manufacturer of high-performance audio/video products and custom-install solutions. Although best known for its comprehensive range of analog, digital, and AC power cables, the portfolio has expanded to a diverse assortment of products, including the multi-award-winning DragonFly DACs, and Niagara and PowerQuest power products. AudioQuest’s ultimate goal is the same today as it was 40 years ago: Do No Harm! By this all cables and components, to the extent that is technologically feasible, should get out of the music’s way by inducing the least amount of noise and distortion. Based on these design principles AudioQuest today manufactures its cables and interconnects terminated at factory or in bulk spools which can be terminated at site according to custom lengths as required.

AudioQuest offers a wide range of audio cables designed to optimize signal transfer between audio components. This includes interconnect cables, speaker cables, and digital cables. These cables utilize advanced materials such as high-purity copper, silver, and other conductors, as well as specialized insulation and shielding techniques to minimize interference and distortion

Can you provide our readers with an overview of Audio Quest’s expertise in Home Theater and Hi-Fi products available in India?

AudioQuest has been working in Audio and Video since 1980, it’s been a long journey to get to where we are today but we have learned a lot along the way, and that has shaped the range we currently offer. For audio, we have all the products people would expect from a cable company, such as analog and digital interconnects, speaker cables and adaptors, but the scale of the range is far larger than most people expect, from the entry-level to products costing tens of thousands of dollars. In addition to that we have electronic products such as our DragonFly USB DACS and power items such as our PowerQuest and Niagara ranges alongside a full range of AC power cables. We have a huge number of patents and technical white papers to detail specific technologies that are unique to AudioQuest and we believe that all this together gives us the most comprehensive range of Audio and Video products of any performance-driven company. Of course any company will tell you that their products are the best available, so we go a step further, and invite any potential buyer to visit a dealer, test our cables, and tell us what they think.

As Audio Quest focuses on enhancing in-home audio and video experiences, could you elaborate on the philosophy behind the brand as expressed by its founder, William E. Low?

The founding principle behind AudioQuest was the same as it is today: “Do No Harm”. The perfect cable takes nothing away from the audio or video signal and simply allows your equipment to work as best as it was designed to do. Cables aren’t magic, a cable can’t make something better it can only ever take something away. A well-made cable takes away less of the signal and allows you to enjoy more of your music or cinema. We have always been more focused on the experience for the listener, than on flashy marketing and that allows us to spend all of our efforts on making the best cables at every price point

What value and performance do Audio Quest’s varied offerings, including speaker cables, HDMI cables, and portable digital audio products, bring to both retailers and consumers?

A quick look at the huge array of awards that our products have received form the A/V press will show you that AudioQuest provides some of the best-performing products at every price range, so the value for customers is very clear. Added to that is our lifetime warranty on cable products which means that customers can be sure that they are getting a well-designed and well-made product that we stand behind to guarantee its performance and durability. For retailers we have an enormous range of products – we don’t expect a retailer to carry every line we make, rather we want to be sure that whatever their needs are for performance cables and accessories, they can get everything they need from one brand. In addition to a lifetime guarantee on cables, which is an excellent selling point for any retailer, we have an exceptionally low return rate in every market, which translates into exceptional customer satisfaction with our products.

What future developments can customers and enthusiasts expect from Audio Quest?

Rather than naming specific models and products that are not yet ready for launch, we have to answer with: “More of the same”. Every year we grow the range of products we have on offer and we are always looking for ways to make high performance more cost-effective and affordable. Every time we launch a new product it has to outperform anything we have done before but for less money. That approach means we are always pushing ourselves to make the best products on the market.
